Destiny, calling, and purpose are all buzzwords often used by persons of influence, because they will get a rise out of almost any audience. They know most people can’t help but feeling as though deep down there is just something they are meant to do on this earth–a reason why they are here. These people want to figure it out; they want their life to have meaning. These people are absolutely correct.
Although it is often exploited and sensationalized, destiny and purpose are biblically sound concepts and are a reality for every person God brought (or will bring) into the earth. Your life is not a mistake beloved; there is a reason God has brought you here. There are things you should be doing, a specific route He has already planned for you to take and to excel in for His glory. In Jeremiah 29:11 God says “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. He also says in chapter 1, verse five, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you..”. And again we see in Romans 8:28 where the apostle Paul says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose“. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do“.
Unfortunately, however, I often see (and have experienced) much frustration surrounding the journey of entering into everything God has already prepared for you and figuring out what God is calling you to in your life.
So, I have compiled five tips that can help you begin to walk into your destiny.
Have crazy faith: No matter what you are doing with God, believing God for, or talking about as it relates to God, you simply cannot get around needing faith.Faith is to a Christian like air is to any other human–it is a necessity. Thebible says without faith it is impossible to please God. Even if you have alittle, you still gotta have that little to move a mountain. That is the basicsof Christianity-having faith enough to believe.
However, when it is time to walk into your destiny and calling, you will see that your faith will need to grow and mature. Nowyou need strong faith-crazy faith even. Now you don’t just need to believe Godfor the basics, you need to believe wild things like:
God created me for ‘this’; I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me; No weapon formed against my purpose shall prosper; I have an anointing from the holy one for this, and I know everything I need to know; It doesn’t matter what my life is looking like right now, God has greater for me, and I’m going after it; I am Not going to fail, because I’m in the will of God for my life.
Receive: Now, I don’t believe the essence of this tip is talked about enough when we talk about purpose, calling, and all of that. No one told me how difficult it would befor me just to receive the hints, clues, cues, impressions, ‘words’, andsigns that God would give to lead me into destiny and his purpose for me. Ittook me years. Years of God giving the same signs and words to basically buildup my faith in order to receive. This is why I talked about having the faithfirst. Without faith, it makes it very difficultto receive from
God when He actually begins revealing to you what His will for you is. You can recognize you arehaving an issue with receiving from God when you go around the mountain offear, doubt, indecision, and confusion over and over and over. Beloved, this is not necessary and should not continue to be the case in your life! That’s why I made this post. My personal recommendation is to keep a journal (or keep up with it electronically) ofevery time you feel like God showed you or told you something about your future, calling, anointing, destiny, or purpose. As the signs begin topile up, you can go back, review them, and see the pattern forming and theoverall vision God has for you coming into view. It will help you to receiveand say, “This really is from God,and I’m not going to convince myself anymore that I’m just making it up!”
Trust God. Obey God. Repeat: I’m not sure why so manyof us think that we can just disregard God but still get everything in Hishands (myself included, because I was so guilty of this). God is notmocked, and He is not a genie. He is your Father who loves you. In order to walk into your destiny and calling youshould be in genuine relationship with God, so that He can lead you, guide you, empower you, and give you the wisdom that you are definitely goingto need to navigate the territory and journey. The way that you are in genuinerelationship with God is through loving Him and embracing His love. The word ofGod tells us that to love God is to obey Himand seek Him and His kingdom FIRST (before anything). This is key. Also, understand that when you are disregarding Godand disobeying Him intentionally and continuously, you open the door for theenemy to come in and attack you and attack your purpose (like attackingyour faith, your ability to receive, your body, mind etc.). We are notunderstanding that sin gives the enemy legal access to mess with you untilrepentance takes place and the enemy is rebuked. Do not cause unnecessaryadditional problems for yourself! Your journey into purpose will have enoughthings to work through on its own without sin’s additions.
Prepare While You Trust: Remember, faith without works is dead! Has God given you some insight into what He’s calling you to do? What desires has He placed on your heart? Are you doing anything with them or with that insight? The misunderstanding we often have and operate in is that we just have the faith, sit back, and wait for God to make it all happen every time we need something. Remember that God is a God of relationship and collaboration. Do your part! Why would God continuously do for you what you can do for yourself ! That would not make Him a good God; that would make Him a coddling enabler–which He is not. Work with what you have, and do everything that you can to show God, “Whenever you’re ready to drop the blessing, I have been preparing, and I’m ready. I have been developing and nursing the ideas, talents, and gifts you gave me. I haven’t been just sitting idly by twiddling my thumbs ‘waiting on you'”. This is the heart posture of a person who is lazy, but still wants to be blessed.
Separate!: As God begins to call you into destiny, you will notice a separation beginning to take place. Certainfriendships are not clicking anymore. That boyfriend you thought you’d be withforever is now a distraction, and you’re wrestling in your heart as to whetheror not you guys should really be together. Thisis the sanctification before the positioning taking place. You cannotwalk into what God has for you with everything or everyone that you startedwith. The calling/purpose must be protected. God will not simply allow it to besabotaged, so He will begin ‘calling you out from among them’. ‘Them’ beingthose people and things that are not like God, haven’t bowed their knee to God,aren’t going in the same direction you’re going, and etc. Don’t fight the separation! Can oil and waterever mix? You will bring upon yourself frustration, hurt, and angst if youcontinue to fight God in this way. Remember, whatever you are not willing tosacrifice for God is in danger of becoming your god. There should be nothing and no one whom you love more than God, and yourchoices, decisions, relationships, and behavior in life should reflect that.
I hope these tips helped you. Comment below if you have an idea of the calling of God for your life and what you’re doing to ‘press toward the mark’!
