When God began to draw my heart towards my life purpose and the reason why I was here on this earth I was blown away. Not because it was unbelievable. Not because it was so amazing. (Although, truly it was both these things). I was blown away because my life purpose turned out to be a personification. I spent so much time in anguish and confusion over what I was on the earth to accomplish, turning over rock after rock trying to find where I fit in and what I’m supposed to do just to matter and make a difference, only to have God show me that all I had to do was discover who I already was, who He already made me.
You see when God created you, He created you so uniquely.
That’s the beauty of being who you are...only you can do what you were put on this earth to do.
No one can steal your destiny from you; no person can do what you were put here to do better than you.
You were born with the essence of who you will become already inside of you.
Life is there with all of its tests and trials that God uses to teach, mold, and hone you into the very best version of yourself, so that you can do what you naturally do in the best, most effective way possible and for His glory. But your gifts, talents and unique approach to life and people are, and the trials you go through grow you and show you what you care about the most–this will later become what breaks your heart and compels you to serve the niche of people that you become an expert at serving.
My epiphany concerning purpose came when I realized not only who I am already, but also when I realized what testimonies are for. There is a quote that I really love, it’s said so much that I can’t remember where it originates from, but it states the truth that your ‘mess’ is what becomes ”your message’.
Who are you?
What do you care about?
If you’re not sure think about your life up until this point...
What have you been through?
What enrages you?
If you don’t know what gets you excited yet, then think about it in a different way:
What breaks your heart?
What makes words full of passion spill out of you even when you wish you could be quiet?
You see all of these questions will give you answers to who you are, and that’s because realizing more fully who you are will reveal more of the multifaceted nature of your purpose to you. It’s why career tests and quizzes question you about your personality, what you like, and what you care about–because in a very important way it is the nature and experiences of you that connect you to others and show you where God is leading you to in your life.
This is why tests and stressful times are so important as well–they suck, but they are critical!
Through them you learn more, you grow more, and you care more.
You will react to them all in a unique way that no one else will, and through those situations God will strengthen, prune, and prepare you for what’s to come in your life by teaching you more about yourself and helping you become your best self.
If you’re very confused and struggling to figure out why in the world you’re here on this earth, then I encourage you to seek God and take some time to think about your life and who you are already.
Explore and Learn your identity in Christ, because that is the truest, most authentic form of yourself–
He will teach and reveal to you more about yourself than you can ever think to discover on your own.
Pay attention to yourself and your life day by day. When do you feel most in your element? What can’t you help but doing or saying? Get out and expose yourself to different healthy situations and environments: what do you learn? What just annoys you to no end despite others maintaining it's really not that big of a deal? What kinds of things would other people easily say, "now, you know how ____ feel about _____?" Why do they say that?
Listen...take a breath right now and practice releasing the frustration or the pressure: the good news is you are most likely already doing some aspect of your purpose in your everyday life right now, you can’t help it. You're so you.
