Baby Steps in the Right Direction

Updated: May 15

The goal for all of my clients, as a Christian coach, is to achieve the best quality of life possible through intimacy with God and practical yet transformative change.  Practical change is all about .  Almost everything in our lives is about the habits we have developed and continue to use; if you change your negative or ineffective habits, you can literally change your life.  Practical habit change sounds so easy, but in my experience it’s one of the main things that we seem to struggle with the most.

There are habits that we want to change, but don’t know how.  There are habits we know we need to change, but we don’t really want to because of the discomfort that it causes us to even try. Because it seems We don’t even want to think about it.  We get discouraged and begin to subconsciously resent ourselves for being what we see as ‘weak’.  Today I want to encourage you to take the approach God has helped me to take in my own life when I had this same attitude. While in the season of personal development and change, think of yourself as a child trying something new, and approach the process like a baby would when he/she is just learning to walk–focus on the steps.

Moment by moment you choose to take whatever small steps are available to you to point you, or keep you, in the right direction or on the right path towards personal success and accomplishment of your goals.

If you’re confused, overwhelmed, or feeling hopeless about trying to change your life for the better, then it’s going to be hard to trust God and believe you’re going to be able to do the impossible with His help. Moment by moment, what baby step can you take that will subtly move you even farther along the right path?

If you’re trying to read the word of God more, you can subscribe to daily bible verse emails.  If you feel like you don’t talk to God enough, maybe you start turning your radio off on the way to work or class in the morning and isolate that time as time to pray.  If you feel lazy or overwhelmed with work and tasks that you’ve yet to finish (because somehow each day you end up cuddled up in bed binge-watching Netflix or Youtube videos–hello!), maybe now when you get home you don’t go straight to your room (don’t even look at your bed) and you sit down at the table or on the couch with your work bag instead.  In none of these examples is the actual problem being solved long term, but baby steps are being made to initiate progress until and drive and determination kick in.

These baby steps put you in a to accomplish what you want to accomplish.

Remember, it’s not about perfection it’s about growth.  Even if the progress is slow, .

How will you start?
