SIS, TAKE A BREAK! THE DANGERS OF PROCRASTINATING ON SELF-CARE

Updated: May 15

Sis, yes, get in your bag. But, sisyou also need to take a break.

Everyone is on their grind. It’s (some would say finally) trendy now to be a ‘boss babe’, busy making money and not needing anyone else to support you or make your dreams come true. What’s also become rather trendy is ‘self-care’.

Unfortunately, the trend of self-care seems to be a lot more of just a trend than a reality for a lot of us hard working women. We’re working ourselves into the ground, missing sleep, not eating, and not taking the time to ever truly relax or celebrate ourselves and the victories we obtain. I’m not sure why this is sensationalized and touted as glamorous–to be workaholics whose only priorities are getting to the money, no matter what it costs.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t be ambitious women prioritizing our financial freedom, goals, and desires. In fact, I encourage all of the ladies I coach to prioritize those things and unapologetically build the life they’ve always envisioned for themselves. However, I’m definitely saying that to make being boss babes and women of impact sustainable, it’s time to truly prioritize self-care.

I recently released a podcast episode entitled ‘Sis, Take a Break: The Dangers of Procrastinating on Self Care’. These dangers are substantial, costly, and worth working to prevent.

Let me give you some of them:

Burn out: Feeling overwhelmed, unmotivated, andmentally exhausted.

Hospitalization: Having to spend time in a carefacility or bedridden as a result of over-working yourself and neglecting yourneeds.

Sloppy Work: Compromising on quality:forgetfulness; making careless/simple mistakes without realizing it or toquickly get the job done.

Ineffective Time Management: Spending adisproportionate amount of time on work or business endeavors than on otherimportant areas of life.

Depression/Anxiety: Succumbing to depressedmood or increased tension, nervousness, or worry as a result of a hyper-focuson ‘work’ and a lack of grounding in self and/or a spiritual foundation.

Social isolation (drifting from family and friends): Beginningto notice the weakening of social or familial bonds as a result of over-workingand not reciprocating or nourishing relationships self-identified as important.

Loss of Money/Profits: As all of these otherdangers take hold, money is lost as a result of inadequate time, effort, orquality poured into work efforts.

These things will kill your hustle and significantly affect your health (mentally and physically) over time. Where you once felt unstoppable you begin to feel ineffective, unmotivated, and held back. The great thing about the whole ordeal is that self-care can easily be introduced into your regular routine–and your body and emotional well-being will thank you for it. To hear some easy ways to indulge in self-care make sure you listen to the podcast episode I released on this topic. For my coaching clients, I personally created a Self-Care checklist and routine builder that makes it super easy to stay on top of giving ourselves the TLC that we need on a consistent basis. You can get that on our coaching site.
